Wilshire Center District Team’s Activities

Last quarter, the WCBID sidewalk maintenance team collected 1,924 bags of trash (44,252 lbs.), dispensed approximately 4,000 doggie bags, removed 31 bulky items, and removed 58 graffiti tags on sidewalk pots, poles, and news racks. The crew is out every Monday and Thursday sweeping the sidewalks, picking up trash, emptying trashcans, clearing gutters and painting out graffiti from street poles, news racks, and flower planters. The WCBID works with Chrysalis on creating pathways to self-sufficiency for homeless and low-income individuals by providing the resources and support needed to find and retain employment. For over 24 years the Wilshire Center BID has been creating jobs that directly contribute back to our community and give people an opportunity to enhance their lives through meaningful and impactful employment.

Last quarter, the WCBID bike team assisted the City in getting over 663 bulky items picked up, made 100 calls/reports to the City for street services (311), assisted in getting 278 graffiti tags cleaned up, and 16 potholes reported and fixed. The team responded to 188 calls for assistance to property owners, managers, stakeholders, pedestrians and others. They assisted hundreds of homeless individuals and removed 140 illegally posted signs. The team addressed 60 belligerent transients and 12 drinking in public. The team captain attended 6 LAPD crime control meetings and attended the quarterly WC/K Business Watch meeting.

The WCBIC continues its efforts to work with the HOPE Team, LAHSA, DMH, and the Bridge Home Project to continue addressing homelessness in the District.

Last quarter, the vehicle patrol assisted the City in getting over 163 bulky items picked up, assisted in getting 15 graffiti tags cleaned up, 3 potholes repaired and 88 damaged street lights reported. They reported homeless encampments to LAHSA (la-hop.org), and addressed 32 instances of drinking in public and 1 burglary. The team collaborated with LAPD on 23 instances.

The landscape crew for the District's Wilshire streetscape continues to maintain all 15 medians and about 150 flower pots along Wilshire Blvd. The work consists of removal of trash, trimming of plants, watering of plants, repairing the sprinkler system, and replacing damaged plants. Last quarter the WCBID trimmed 5 large Ficus trees and 20 large Eugenia trees.

People requesting city services (pothole repair, pickup of bulky items, graffiti removal, etc.) can call 311 or access the free smart phone application, MyLA311.
