Wilshire Center Activities and Other News
This quarter, the Wilshire Center District Safety Team assisted in getting 451 bulky items picked up, made 41 calls to the City for street repairs, and assisted in getting 224 graffiti tags cleaned up. The team responded to 27 calls for assistance from the LAPD and others. They issued 101 illegal vendor warnings, assisted 16 homeless individuals and made 4 felony arrests. Read Article |

National Night Out 2010
On the evening of August 3rd, 2010, about 500 people gathered at 3700 Wilshire Blvd. and walked to the LAPD Olympic Station to show unity in their efforts to stop crime, gangs, violence, graffiti and drugs. The people of the Wilshire Center/Koreatown community could be heard for miles chanting anti-violence chants in Bengali, English, Korean, Spanish and Vietnamese. Watch the Video |

Neighborhood Cleanup
On the morning of July 10th, 2010, 150 people assembled at the corner of 8th St. and Irolo St. in Wilshire Center to conduct a neighborhood cleanup. Two teams armed with brooms, trash bags, and graffiti removal supplies left from that location at 9AM. One team headed west down 8th St. towards Western Ave. and the other headed east towards Vermont Ave. The two teams removed weeds, picked up all items of trash and eliminated all graffiti in sight. Tree Trimming and Community Clean-up
Close to 100 overgrown ficus trees have been trimmed throughout the District by one of our contractors. Over 30 of them were on Irolo and 8th Street and more then 60 of them were between 3rd and 7th from Wilton to Hoover. The intersections of 8th and Irolo and 8th and Vermont have been steamed cleaned. The WCBID helped organize a community clean-up around Mariposa and Normandie between 7th and 8th Street. See (the tree trimming) Before and After Photos |
