Multi Family Bulk Item (MFBI) Program Information

The Bureau of Sanitation assesses a bulky item fee to apartment buildings for disposal of abandoned furniture and other large items left on sidewalks. Because this densely populated area of Los Angeles experiences a greater preponderance of large refuse, Councilmember LaBonge recently coordinated the sanitation department efforts with his own beautification team as well as the Wilshire Center Business Improvement District clean-up staff. Each crew sweeps through the area on alternate days of the week.

At the Wilshire Center/Koreatown Clean-Up Press Conference we took to the streets to pick up bulky items with Tom LaBonge, Herb Wesson and Enrique Zaldivar of the Bureau of Sanitation. Watch the video below.

The program was implemented on August 3, 2007 to provide service to multiple family units comprised of five or more, not normally serviced by the City under the Residential Refuse Collection Program.

The monthly fee of $1.28 is split equally between the tenant and landlord, and offers unlimited bulky item pickup by calling the City's one stop central phone number, 3-1-1.
