Public Park & Schools at the Ambassador Site

Click here to see the proposed Wilshire Public Park preliminary plan

The  discussion on the Ambassador Park is moving forward; see the latest the new concept drawing.  The project goals are; to be inspirational, to respond to the Environmental Impact Report, to be flexible and accessible for both school and public usage and therefore pedestrian friendly, to have adequate maintenance and security, to integrate with Wilshire Boulevard frontage and the school setting, have the ability to do reading and teaching there, to have the fencing integrated with planting, to be as graffiti proof/easy to remove as possible, to derive inspiration from natural environment, to use green materials (solar power), to be safe, green and open, with many flowers/colors, and to provide a self-cleaning restroom.  For some more thoughts on park design click here..

The ambassador site will contain three schools. Grade school will consist of grades kindergarten through three, opening for the 2008-2009 school year for 800 students. Middle school will consist of grades four through eight, opening for the 2009-2010 school year for 1,000 students. High school will consist of grades 9 through twelve, opening for the 2009-2010 school year for 2,440 students. The schools will draw from students who live in the area bounded by Beverly Blvd. on the north, Rampart Blvd. on the east, Olympic Blvd. on the south, and Western Ave. on the west. It is assumed that most students will walk to and from school. The schools will not start with all 4,240 students, but will start with a few grades, adding higher grades in following years. It will be a closed campus, meaning that the students will not be allowed off-campus during the day, nor are guests freely allowed on.

This new school can become a community center providing a lot of after school uses for the community.  Potential opportunities would include athletic fields and meeting rooms/auditoriums.

Let us all make this historical site a great new historical site for our future.
